Dantvedaa (A Unit of Rahar Health Care) provide best RCT Treatment in Uttam Nagar, New Delhi
Root Canal Treatment (RCT) is a dental procedure used to save a tooth that is badly decayed or infected. The treatment involves removing the damaged area of the tooth (the pulp), cleaning and disinfecting it, and then filling and sealing it
1. Why is it needed?
RCT is necessary when the pulp (soft tissue inside the tooth containing nerves and blood vessels) becomes inflamed or infected. Common causes include:
- Deep Decay: Untreated cavities reaching the inner tooth.
- Trauma: Cracks, chips, or injury to the tooth.
- Repeated Dental Work: Multiple procedures on the same tooth.
- Abscess: A pocket of pus at the root tip due to infection.
2. The Step-by-Step Procedure
The process typically takes one to three visits, depending on the severity of the infection.
- Diagnosis: Your dentist takes an X-ray to check the shape of the root canals and see if there are any signs of infection in the surrounding bone.
- Anesthesia & Isolation: Local anesthesia is administered to numb the area. A "dental dam" (rubber sheet) is often placed around the tooth to keep it dry and saliva-free.
- Access & Removal: The dentist drills an access hole into the tooth's crown. Special tiny tools called files are used to remove the infected or dead pulp.
- Cleaning & Shaping: The canals are cleaned, disinfected with antiseptic solutions (like sodium hypochlorite), and shaped to receive the filling.
- Filling (Obturation): The empty canals are filled with a biocompatible rubber-like material called gutta-percha and sealed with adhesive cement.
- Sealing & Restoration: A temporary or permanent filling seals the access hole. Later, a dental crown is usually placed to protect the now-brittle tooth from fracturing.
3. Post-Treatment Care
- Pain Management: Mild soreness is common for a few days; over-the-counter painkillers like ibuprofen are usually sufficient.
- Diet: Avoid chewing on the treated tooth until the final crown is placed. Stick to soft foods like yogurt, mashed potatoes, or soup.
- Hygiene: Continue brushing and flossing normally, but be gentle around the treated area.
