The procedure involves numbing the area with local anesthesia (or sedation for complex cases) and using instruments like elevators and forceps to loosen and pull the tooth out, with post-procedure care focusing on managing pain, swelling, and promoting a blood clot to form for healing, often taking weeks for the socket to fully heal.

Reasons for Extraction

• Periodontal Disease: When gums and bone are too damaged to support the tooth.

• Severe Decay/Trauma: Tooth damage beyond repair.
• Infection: To eliminate a source of pain and bacteria.
• Crowding: To create space for orthodontics or other teeth.

The Procedure

• Anesthesia: Local anesthetic to numb the area; sedation or general anesthesia may be used for complex cases.

• Loosening: An elevator is used to gently loosen the tooth.

• Removal: Forceps pull the tooth from its socket.

• Surgical Extractions: For impacted or broken teeth, the gum may be cut, bone removed, or the tooth divided into pieces.
